“I do not care” attitude is a carry over from the helplessness state of being.
I don’t exclude myself from that category but do recognize it for what it is – and that being – because we can’t change the situation or think we’re so small and our effort is negligible we have to turn our attention away from it as it. reminds us of how small we think we are. The trick is to think we can and that even though the measured effort of our contribution may be small, the sum of our effort is not. The small bit we did was part of the whole and was needed. So my fellow journeyman go forth and do what you can for together, our collected and directed efforts can change the world, beginning with the state of our thinking. I do recall a story, that went something like this:A man happens upon a boy throwing a starfish on the beach back into the ocean. “What are you doing”? asked the man to the boy The boy replied: “I am saving starfish” The man said: “There are thousands, you can’t save them all ?” The boy said: “Well, this one will appreciate it” So the takeaway is, you can not do it all, but you can do something that counts for some, and even if no one saw you do it, you know what you did and yes, you can do… In Vancouver, Canada we live in a very unique spot in the world. depending on how you analyze it, we’re in one of the most desirable places with most worldly goods at hand provided you have sufficient resources to utilize them. at the same time, there are many without the required resources and live lives of quiet desperation fearing the next thing that can go wrong and wonder how they will remedy it.When you stop and converse with a resident of Vancouver, you will discover a concern they have regardless of their resources. Yet, you will find all will have opinions of their fellow Vancouverite based on their resources. We can all have greater understanding of our fellow travelers and have a more open heart.
